Are God's laws unchanging and universal? I created this cartoon inspired by the witty, well crafted and humorous letter to radio show hostess Laura Schlessinger, aka Dr. Laura, who claimed that as an observant Orthodox Jew, "homosexuality is an abomination, according to Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance"... Is homosexuality REALLY an abomination? Is it true just because it says so in the book? => "I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?"
If we take everything in the bible as literal law, we would be a very barbaric society by almost anyone's definition. Beyond the bible, the real danger comes from all our unexamined beliefs, whether they come from our school system, our parents, or our culture in general.
Can we engage our hearts AND minds, examine the beliefs we take for granted, and co-create a conscious society?
Ask yourself: 1) What do you know? 2) How do you know the things you know? 3) How do you know the things you know are true?
